Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky was a very powerful
Russian business oligarchs and was the president
of YUKOS, which is the Russian petroleum company.
In the year 2004 was the wealthiest man in Russia
and the 16th wealthiest man in the world. Khodorkovsky
was born on June 26, 1963 in Moscow, Russia.
Khodorkovsky showed his ambitions being a child
and was concentrated on career as a communist
activist a lot. During 80's having a good position
in the administration the Russian businessman
established his first business in the year 1986.
After two years Khodorkovsky was the millionaire
among other Russian oligarchs.
Due
to the intense privatization in Russia during
90's Khodorkovsky established a great business
power in Russia. This was achieved through corruption
and a status of being a member of nomenclature.
Khodorkovsky
is known as a businessman who paid a great attention
to foreign investment and who had a great impact
on building a global business. Additional to
that he became involved in politics by having
opinion to make reforms for democracy and educate
society.
Khodorkovsky was arrested on October 25, 2003
for not paying taxes, but just on May 31, 2005
he was sentenced to nine years in prison. The
arrest brought a great influence on the share
price of Yukos: the Russian market became unstable.
The Khodorkovsky's supporters stressed that
the whole affair was based on corruption and
that Russian President Vladimir
Putin organized the arrest as he had conflict
with Khodorkovsky. But critics says that Russian
elite and Khodorkovsky ignore laws and international
critics.
