Jack
Welch Bio..
John Francis "Jack" Welch Jr. was
born on November 19, 1935 in Peabody, Massachusetts.
He was the CEO of General Electric (GE) for
20 years (1981-2001). His parents were Grace,
a housewife, and John, a Boston & Maine
Railroad conductor. Jack Welch studied chemical
engineering and started at General Electric
in 1960.
Welch's
business career began with working as a junior
engineer, and 12 years later Jack became the
vice president of GE, then in 1977 he was the
senior vice president, and vice chairman in
1979. His leadership style was known as aggressive
as Welch fired many workers, shut down factories,
destroyed management hierarchy, and reduced
payrolls. Jack Welch is known as the business
leader, who brought informality to GE.
Jack
Welch is known as "Neutron Jack" and
was named "Manager of the Century"
by Fortune magazine in the year 1999. He also
earned the record in salary, which is 94 million
dollars in one year.
