Pete
Sampras Bio..
Pete Sampras was born August 12, 1971, in Washington,
DC and has been a World No.1 tennis player.
His parents Georgia and Sam are Greek immigrant
to the USA. Sampras started his tennis career
when he was a child and was discovered in the
basement of his home. That was a turning point
for his life and within a time and intense training
Pete has become one of the best male tennis
players on a global scale.
In
the year 1988 when Pete Sampras was just 17
years old he won his first first top-level singles
title in February 1990 at Philadelphia and by
beating Andre Agassi he became the US Open's
youngest-ever male singles champion. Andre Agassi
is considered to be Sampras' greatest rival.
During 90's Pete achieved a great popularity
and recognition in tennis. But in early 2000's
he confronted already the new tennis stars,
such as Lleyton Hewitt and Marat Safin. Pete
Sampras announced to the world the tennis retirement
in the year 2003 (August).
In tennis he is known as an aggressive player
and was the only tennis player, who finished
the year as No.1 for 6 years from 1993 to 1998.
Pete gained 64 titles during his tennis career
and won 11 Masters Series titles. Pete Sampras
has got such awards as ITF World Champion and
ATP Player of the Year for six years (1993-1998).
In
2000 the famous American actress Bridgette Wilson
became the wife of Sampras and the couple has
got 2 sons: Ryan Nicholas (born 2005) and Christian
Charles (born 2002).
