Anna Sergeyevna Kournikova was born in Moscow, Russia on the 7th of June, 1981. Kournikova was encouraged to be involved in sports from a young age by her parents Sergei and Alla Kournikova. Her father was a professional wrestler and tennis coach, which influenced Anna's decision to play tennis.

Anna Kournikova studied at Nick Bolletierri's tennis academy from around the age of 11 and at just 14 was the youngest person to ever win a Fed Cup match. Kournikova was regularly ranked in the top 20 players in the world and ranked up to 8th as a singles player. Her doubles ranking were much better, winning 16 doubles WTA (Women's Tennis Association) titles and being ranked as high as number 1 in the world.

The young Russian pin-up girl created a large following of fans with her good looks, with photographers following her every move, both on the tennis court and off. She has been one of the most photographed tennis stars on the professional circuit and one the most sponsored, with lucrative sponsorship deals from several large corporations looking to have their brand associated with the beautiful young Russian tennis star.
