Michel Basquiat Bio..
Jean Michel Basquiat was born on December 22,
1960 in New York and died at the age of 27 in
the year 1988 (August 12). Basqiuat's mother
was Puerto Rican and his father was from Haiti.
In
his childhood Basquiat discovered his gift in
drawing and filled his sketch books with art.
He then became a graffiti artist, gaining some
fame with his written works, always signed SAMO.
He then incorporated his street art, with his
expressionist gallery art, that went on to become
much sought after by art collectors.
Basquiat
did quite a number of painted collaborations
with artists, such as Al Diaz and Andy Warhol.
Much of his work touched on black
history and marginal black
culture and lifestyle, incorporating African
ideas in unusual variations in the paintings.
Basquiat
painted primitive
cars, city buildings and daily life using
original symbols, history and religion sign
presentation.
The
artist became a rich and famous personality
in art world very quickly. His sudden rise to
fame in the art boom of the 1980s fed Basquiat's
addiction to heroin and his destructive partying
lifestyle. Basquiat died of a heroin overdose
in 1988. His work have continued to rise in
value, fetching multi-million dollar sums in
art auction houses worldwide.
