Henri
Matisse Bio..
Henri Matisse is considered to be a great 20th
century French modern painter, who was born
on December 31, 1869 and died at the age of
85 in 1954. Henri Matisse started his career
as a lawyer and began his studies in the year
1888 in Paris, gaining a certificate as a court
administrator.
As
time passed Henri Matisse was introduced to
the art world through his friends, and in 1900
he enrolled a Paris art school Académie
Julian. One year later Henri Matisse held his
first exhibition. Henri Matisse went on to become
very wealthy from his paintings during his lifetime,
achieving a success that is usually only bestowed
on artists after their death.
A
major impact on his paintings and ideas were
through Paul Cézanne, Edouard Manet and
Paul Signac. Matisse was also a close friend
and contemporary of Pablo
Picasso.
Matisse
had showed his skills not just in painting and
drawing, but also in sculpting, working with
ceramics, bronze and clay. In art history his
greatest period of production is considered
to be the years between 1906 and 1917.
Henri
Matisse died in 1954 in Nice, France from cancer.
