Whiteley Bio..
Brett Whiteley was born on April 7, 1939 in
Sydney, Australia and died at the age of 53
in the year 1992.
Whiteley's
daughter Arkie Whiteley was born in 1964 in
London. Sydney, London and New York were the
places where Brett Whiteley had lived most of
his life and developed his career as a modern
painter.
The
major influences on his art style were Rembrandt
and Van Gogh, who's influences were seen in
many of his mature Sydney works.
Brett
Whiteley achieved an international fame and
recognition as an artist. He won a number of
art prizes, such as Bathurst prize for young
artists (1956), Italian traveling scholarship
(1960), Harkness Foundation scholarship (1967),
Archibald prize and Sulman Prize (1976), Wynne
prize (1977/1978) and has exhibited his paintings
around the world.
Whiteley
in his later years became addicted to alcohol
and drugs, and ultimately cut his life and career
short. Brett Whiteley died in the year 1992
of a heroin overdose.
