Andy
Warhol Bio..
Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania as Andrew Warhola and had died
at the age of 58 (on February 22, 1987). His
parents were immigrants from northeast Slovakia.
At
an early age Warhol knew he wanted to be an
artist, and started by studying commercial art.
Warhol moved to New York and started on his
way towards fame by working in illustrating
and advertising. He started to be noticed in
the art world even as an illustrator.
His works started to gain much recognition during
the 60s, where he created works of popular culture,
daily life, and famous people. He soon had a
following, with a staff of workers doing much
of his work in his studio called the "factory".
Warhol loved entertaining and to be out and
seen. He was often seen at important parties
and social gatherings, however the artist was
described as a silent individual and more of
an observer. Warhol was interested in men and
was a homosexual who had quite a few relationships
with his clients, male friends and male workers
in his art studio.
On
June 3, 1968 was shot in his art studio by a
deranged feminist and was nearly killed. The
incident effected Warhol's health and life very
much.
Andy
Warhol was also an art film maker, making such
films as Sleep (1963) , Kiss (1963), Blow Job
(1963), Tarzan and Jane Regained... Sort of
(1964), Empire (1964), 13 Most Beautiful Women
(1964), Poor Little Rich Girl (1965), More Milk,
Evette (1966), Imitation of Christ (1967), Salvador
Dalí (1966), I, a Man (1967), Blue Movie
(1969), and L'Amour (1972). Warhol has also
written several books: A, a novel (1968), The
Philosophy of Andy Warhol; from A to B and back
again (1975), Popism: The Warhol Sixties (1980),
and The Andy Warhol Diaries (1989). Warhol has
established "Interview" which is a
famous fashion magazines that is still published
today.
Warhol has left a significant impact on the
history of art in the 20th century and museums
and major art galleries all over the world have
his works in their collections. In his birthplace,
Pennsylvania, there is the Andy
Warhol Museum, which owns approximately
4000 paintings and drawings made by Warhol.
Worhol's
real estate after his death was estimated to
be approximately $20 000 000.
Warhol died from complications during routine
surgery art the age of 58.
