Tom Cruise, born as Thomas Cruise Mapother IV
on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York, USA.
He has achieved much success as an actor and
Hollywood celebrity. During his childhood Cruise
moved from house to house with his family in
places throughout Canada and the United States.
Cruise has three sisters: Cass, Marian and Lee
Anne De Vette.
In June 1980 Tom graduated from the Glen Ridge
High School, he then studied drama at the Neighborhood
Playhouse and New School University.
Tom
Cruise has also gained much attention for his
interest in religion and spirituality. His interest
in religion started as a child when he had an
interest in being a priest. He is now a celebrity
scientologist and often talks about his beliefs
and that of his controversial religion, scientology.
Katie Holmes has also started studying Scientology
since being the partner of Tom Cruise.
His most famous movies are Top Gun (1986), The
Color of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988), Born
on the Fourth of July (1989), Interview with
the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994),
Mission: Impossible (1996), Jerry Maguire (1996),
Vanilla Sky (2001), The Last Samurai (2003),
War of the Worlds (2005), but his film debut
was a small role part in the movie "Endless
Love", which was made in 1981. For these
movies Tom has received a great recognition
and quite a number of awards,
Cruise has achieved many recognitions and has
received Academy Award nominations for Born
on the Fourth of July (1989) and Jerry Maguire
(1996), and has been awarded the best actor
for Magnolia (1999). He has received the John
Huston Award and is known as the first actor
in history to play roles in five movies that
grossed $100 million: Jerry Maguire (1996),
Mission: Impossible (1996), Interview with the
Vampire (1994), The Firm (1993) and A Few Good
Men (1992).
Since
the year 2005 Cruise has been in a relationship
with the Hollywood actress
Katie Holmes, and they engaged on June 17,
2005. Previous relationships that Cruise has
been in include the famous
actress Penelope Cruz from 2001 to 2004
(the co-star in the movie "Vanilla sky"
2001) and Nicole
Kidman. Tom was married to Nicole Kidman
from December 24, 1990 to August 8, 2001 and
the couple had adopted two children: Connor
Antony (born January 17, 1995) and Isabella
Jane (born December 22, 1992). Tom has played
roles together with Nicole Kidman in three movies:
Eyes Wide Shut (1999), Far and Away (1992) and
Days of Thunder (1990). Tom has also been married
to actress Mimi Rogers from May 9, 1987 till
February 4, 1990.

Cruise's salary for acting has grown very rapidly
since the middle of 80's when he earned $75
000 for the movie "Risky Business"
(1983), which was his first leading role, $3,000
000 for "Rain Man" (1988), and $25,000,000
for "The Last Samurai" (2003). His
largest payout for a movie was Mission:Impossible,
which was filmed in 1996 and gave Cruise $70,000,000
plus a percentage of gross.
Tom Cruise was listed as one of the 100 Sexiest
Stars in film history by Empire magazine in
1995, as best dressed male movie star in 1997,
ranked on VH1's 100 Hottest Hotties, selected
as the Greatest Movie Star of all time by Entertainment
Weekly, chosen in the 50 most beautiful people
in the world by "People"magazine in
1997, "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time"
list by Empire magazine in 1997, in the 50 Most
Beautiful People in the world in 1991, and ranked
in Star TV's Top 10 Box Office Stars of the
1990s in 2003 and many other rankings.
